Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar
Start at Barcelona's finest Gothic church. The soaring interior is breathtaking — and free to visit during mass hours. Wander the surrounding medieval lanes afterwards.

El Xampanyet
5 min walk. A legendary cava bar since 1929. Order anchovies, manchego, and house cava from the tiled bar. Standing room only — that's the charm.

Bar del Pla
3 min walk. Modern Catalan tapas in a cosy stone-walled space. The tuna tataki and truffle bikini sandwich are outstanding. Great natural wine list.

Paradiso
4 min walk. Enter through a pastrami bar fridge door into one of the World's 50 Best Bars. Theatrical cocktails in a speakeasy setting. Book ahead or queue early.
Comments
El Xampanyet was packed but so worth the wait — the house cava and anchovies are a must. Proper old Barcelona.
Arrive at Paradiso before 9pm or expect a 40+ min queue. The cocktails are theatrical but some are style over substance honestly.
We went at 8:30 on a Wednesday and walked right in, weekdays are the move.
